Pots of the land
A collection of wood fired chawans (ceramic vessels in which matcha tea is prepared) inspired by my natural surroundings and incorporating locally gathered materials including iron rich clay, sand and rocks.
The chawans were hand built using a combination of techniques including stretching, breaking off pieces and hollowing out, resembling geological processes and the forces that are constantly changing the face of the Earth.
The angular shapes and rugged rims are a reflection of the geologically rich Pembrokeshire landscape.
The chawans were placed in the landscape as an invitation to engage with nature and restore our connection with the Earth.

A selection of these chawans was shown at the "Winter Exhibition 22/23" at Thrown Contemporary gallery.
